Pahang In Nature by TENGKU MARINA IBRAHIM

16 Mar - 22 April 2024 PUBLICATION

Marina Ibrahim’s fifth solo exhibition PAHANG IN NATURE was commissioned by the new Museum of Contemporary Art in Kuantan.

The largest collection of paintings by the artist to date, the collection depicts scenes of Pahang’s natural landscapes. The collection comprises a total of 38 paintings that will be displayed in Kuantan for six months, as the headlining show of the museum's official opening.

Over the course of two years, Marina travelled to Pahang's key natural sites, capturing their beauty in her paintings. Known for her child-like strokes and vibrant colours, Marina's subject has always been elements of nature.

This collection is no different in her preference for acrylic paint and coloured pencils on canvas. Marina is a master of proportions, and her signature is capturing beauty in the ordinary.

In this collection, the artist challenges herself to capture expanse in her paintings, depicting depth and distance that is so characteristic of Pahang’s natural landscape.

The state is known for its mountain ranges, rainforests, never-ending plains and vast lakes. With the encouragement of Pahang Museums’ Director Dato' Ahmad Farid, Ibrahim also began working on much larger canvases, the largest pieces almost 7-feet long by 9-feet wide.
